Role Model: Anthony Cooper.
Role Model: Anthony
Cooper.
Anthony Cooper.
I chose Anthony Cooper
because he is part of the Chatham Business School and Department, and he is a
person that shows admiring characteristics and qualities when it comes to
communicate with his other people among the Chatham community and that is how I
easily met him.
Anthony Cooper is a
Sophomore student at Chatham University Majoring in Economics. Originally from
Fairview, Pennsylvania; he was adopted by the Coopers in 2004. He has a Doctor
and a University Professor as parents. Anthony Cooper chose Chatham University
reason because it is a small campus field in the city and also because he was
granted full tuition scholarship.
When I asked about why
he chose to major in Economics, Mr. Cooper replied by saying that it is due to
the fact that he would love to understand the real hidden meaning of how money
works, how money should be used or treated, how economy plays a big role in the
development of a country, how long term economics growth should be manifested
from people behavior, and also because he did not want to follow the science
pattern just like most people in his family did; that makes him an
exception.
Together with the
previous information, I asked Mr. Cooper to if he would prefer to open his own
business or work in company upon his graduation from Chatham University. He
came up by saying that he would prefer to get experience from a company and
know how things works in the professional world before eventually starting his
own business. Similarly, I ask him to present to me one good strategy upon
success in school and study. He said, the best way will be to try and stay a
week ahead from all course and a good studying schedule.
Any
advises I get from Mr. Cooper about building a good portfolio or resume are to
never be afraid of trying new things, to be active in any domain, get on or off
campus jobs during school year or during the break. Also, to find and integrate
clubs on campus as he, Mr. Cooper already joined five clubs between the two
years spent at Chatham University. When asked about how to find good on or off
campus jobs, Mr. Cooper mentioned that it is important to always have good
communication with people, to ask questions from the adults around and people
with position power so that they could properly lead you on your path. Else
about campus mixer and events, Mr. Cooper emphasizes the importance of it by
saying that it helps to meet with a tremendous number of students around campus
that have the same level of building a good career and to meet with
professional people such professors or career advisors.
Briefly, Mr. Cooper talked about how to
get internship in this highly competitive internship demand sector, he
mentioned that the best way would be to apply for as many as two hundred
company and get accepted to close to a dozen of company so that you may have
the choice to choose a company that will suit the best for the seeking
internship. Ultimately Mr. cooper mentioned that participating in projects
helps you to not be afraid to go above and beyond, to be a free rider when it
comes to competitions and to always do the actual work and avoid shortcuts in
order to develop strong skills over time.
Chatham Business Insight
As part of the Chatham business
Insight article that I had to read and discuss some key point about an article
named “Dr. Stephanie Rosenthal Takes B&E students to an Exclusive
Conference” by T Gambleborsh (June 2018). The simply reason I chose this
article is mainly because Mr. Cooper mentioned that participating in events
such as conferences plays a big role in building a good portfolio and to also
meet people that are already working into the professional world.
The Students in attendance where Michelle Bloom, Trevor
Borsh and Youssef Alijabi. Together they had the chance to follow a conference
based on ethical practices and applications of artificial intelligence and
computational learning. Just by their presence at the conference, it links up
with what Mr. Cooper mention about attending mixers and events. It surely helped
the student get the chance to be or meet professional people, sharing business
cards for future matters. The conference definitely gave them the opportunity
to learn about those concepts but also to increasing their networking and boost
them to be more active in their study lives.
As Part of what we learned in class, I would relate this
conference more about on how the organizers used the conference to show their
idea on what could the next business and the impact it should have on the
population and the economy once implemented into the society. The Guest speaker
underline the fundamental ethics of artificial intelligence. On Chapter 4, section
4.5 we also talked about the organizational approach to Ethics and it
emphasizes on how organization have cultures shares of doing things that evolve
through shared value and belief. Considering the conference, he mentioned that the underlying ethics involved with computational
learning for each student in attendance considering their roles as tech-era
business majors.
